December 2001

I write this on 1st December at 7pm whilst my wife is somewhere in the village when we should be getting ready to go and witness the switching on of some Christmas house lights. Not just any old lights but, I am told by the owner, over 7000 lights! Those of you who live within driving distance of the village should make a detour one evening this month to Western Close where you will be treated to the most spectacular illuminated house. The 'show' is in aid of Leukaemia research. This will be one of three illuminated houses if last year is anything to go by. One is near the Doctor's on Wilton Road and the other is really an illuminated garden on the Oakfields Estate. All in aid of charity. If I can get any half-decent photographs I'll post them on Site 3 but nighttime photography is not one of my strong points.

I managed to get very little done on any site this month as my father-in-law passed away mid-month but I've got some most remarkable old photographs lined up for a special pre-Christmas update. They have recently been unearthed in an attic and feature post offices owned by the Palmer family, one of which none of my older village sources could remember.

The Candlelit Carol concert at St Nicholas this year is at 3.30pm on 16th December whilst the one at St Mary's is at 7pm on the 20th. No doubt many of you will be attending your own services and concerts wherever you are in the world.

I received a letter this morning from a Mrs Daphne Gray, nee Brown, who lives in Brisbane, Australia. She was born in Feltwell to Mary and Percy Brown and would like to contact any old friends or relatives. Obviously she is not on email. For those Feltwellians in Australia I have Daphne's full address if you would like to contact her.

If anyone is researching either the Langley or Rudland family then Keith Choda has details at http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/c/h/o/Keith-E-Choda/. Thanks Bruce and Jenny for contacting Keith. I've also had an enquiry from Adrian Chapman seeking information on the Morley family and from Zoe Kirk who would like any info on the Old Rectory - she was born there in 1977. Two correspondents have both asked where they can get names from of those airmen who attended Flight Training School No. 3 in Feltwell. As I have no idea, can anyone help?
