The Tudor benches or pews built in the late 1400s are some of the finest examples of pre- Reformation benches in the country. These pews have pierced backs, poppyheads and mutilated animal or figurative handrests. Many of these were probably disfigured during the Commonwealth of 1647 when untold damage was done to our churches. |
