Service for the Unveiling
and Dedication of the
Cross of Sacrifice in the
Service Plot in St. Nicholas
Churchyard, Feltwell.

Friday the 7^th day of
October 1949 at 2.30pm

The Service Plot, St. Nicholas Churchyard,
Feltwell.

This Service has been arranged by the Parochial Church Council of Feltwell, and the Imperial War Graves Commission, with the intention of providing a fitting dedication of the memorials to the Service personnel, who made the supreme sacrifice during the Second World War, and who are laid to rest in the section of the Churchyard appropriately named the Service Plot, and of others who have been interred in private graves in the Churchyard.

At the outbreak of the war, the Imperial War Graves Commission requested provision for appropriate areas to be set aside for the interment of Service men and women. Service Plots were laid out in accordance with a simple scheme recommended by the Imperial War Graves Commission, who have similar Plots in all parts of the world. At first, the Imperial War Graves Commission supplied temporary wooden crosses, which have now been replaced by permanent headstones. They also provided horticultural aspects together with the Cross of Sacrifice.

This Plot, which will serve as a permanent memorial, is maintained by the Parochial Church Council, and the Imperial War Graves Commission, which makes a contribution towards the cost of maintenance.

1. Positions will be allotted to:-

The relatives of the Fallen.
The Royal Air Force Parade.
The Royal Air Force Band.
Representatives of Organisations laying Wreaths,
The Press.
The General Public.

Stewards will be available to make these positions clear.

It is particularly requested that those attending the Service will be in position by 2.15 p.m. at the latest.

2    His Excellency the High Commissioner for New Zealand, The Lord Bishop of Ely, Senior Air Officers Royal Air Force, The Officer Commanding, Royal Air Force Station, Feltwell, The Representatives of the Imperial War Graves Commission, The Royal Air Force Chaplain. The Bishop of Ely's Chaplain, The Churchwardens of- Feltwell and The Rector of Feltwell, will assemble in St. Nicholas Church and proceed at2.25 p.m. to their positions in the Service Plot in the following order:-

The High Commissioner and The Rector;
Senior Air Officers and The Station Commander;
The Representatives of the Imperial War Graves Commission;
The Royal Air Force Chaplain;
The Bishop of Ely and Churchwardens;
The Bishop's Chaplain.

3. The Service.

4. The Procession from St. Nicholas Church will reform and return in the same order.

5. The Royal Air Force Parade will march off.

6. The Public are particularly requested to remain in their places and not to leave until the Royal Air Force Parade has left the Churchyard.

7. The Royal Air Force Parade will march past a saluting base erected at the top of the Borough.

1. Accommodation will be provided in St. Nicholas Church, so far as is possible, for those wishing to attend.

2. The Service will be carried out as printed. The Royal Air Force Band will play, while the acts of Unveiling and Dedication are performed.

THE LORD'S PRAYER.

IN the faith of Jesus Christ we dedicate this Cross to the Glory of God, and in grateful memory of those whose earthly remains rest in this Churchyard, who at the call of King and country, left all that was dear to them, endured hardness, faced danger, end finally passed out of the sight of men by the path of duty and self-sacrifice, giving up their own lives that others might live in freedom. In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

ALMIGHTY God, who through the triumphant Passion of Thine only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, has consecrated the Cross to be the standard of Thy Holy Church, and the symbol of all spiritual victory; accept, we beseech Thee, this sign which has been dedicated to the glory of Thy Holy Name, and the memory of those who fought manfully for righteousness and laid down their lives for their Country arid their Friends; and grant that to us who remain, and to them that come after, to all generations, it may recall their glory, quicken our thankfulness, and awaken in us the same spirit of sacrifice; through Him who endured the Cross and died and rose again for us, Thy Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, who liveth and reigrieth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, world without end. Amen.

LORD, who by Thy Son, Our Saviour Jesus Christ, hast promised this blessing to those who mourn, that they shall be comforted; give us faith, we beseech Thee, to look beyond the troubles of this present time, and to know that neither life nor death can separate us from Thy love, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
